Men's Divers Top Field At University of Chicago's Phoenix Classic

Divers Brian Simonich and Grant Williams went 1-2 on the 3-meter board for the Hope College men's swimming & diving team's top performances at the University of Chicago's Phoenix Classic this weekend.

Simonich, a senior from Highland, Michigan (Milford HS), recorded an 11-dive total of 453.65 points.

Williams, a sophomore from Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids), posted an 11-dive score of 449.90 points.

The Flying Dutchmen competed in only one day of the three-day event that concluded on Sunday and included NCAA Division I, II and III teams. They finished eighth out of 11 teams with 164 points.

Sophomore Daniel Keith of Saline, Michigan (Saline) qualified for championship races in two events.

He finished ninth in the 200-yard individual medley by clocking a time of 1 minute, 49.43 seconds in the A Final.

He came in 10th in the 100 freestyle with a swim of 47.89 seconds in the A Final.

Hope's 200 medley of junior Ethan Yau of Chicago, Illinois (Chicago College Prep), sophomore Will Benner of State College, Pennsylvania (State College Area), freshman James Bird of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford), and junior Keon Rick of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) took 18th by recording a time of 1:44.17 in the B Final.

Junior Daniel Clyde of Ann Arbor, Michigan (Huron) made the B Final in the 200 backstroke and was 20th at 2:06.30.

The Flying Dutchmen next compete at the Friday-Saturday, November 30-December 1 Wheaton College (Illinois) Invitational.
