Women's Golf in Fourth Place After First Day of Campbell Invitational

Sophomore Abigail Meder of Lansing (Lansing Catholic Central) led the Hope College women's golf team with an individual round of 79 on Friday and helped the Flying Dutch take fourth place after the first day of the two-round Kyle Campbell Invitational hosted by Olivet College.

As a team, Coach Greg Stafford's Flying Dutch shot 335 at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Michigan. DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana leads with a 311.

Of the 14 teams in the field, seven are from the MIAA. Hope was the MIAA's top finisher for the day, holding a 10-stroke lead over fifth-place Albion College.

Meder is tied for seventh in the individual standings. Teammate Jordan Rioux, a sophomore from Farmington (Livonia Ladywood) is in eleventh place with an 81. Also breaking the top 20 was senior Ariana Stewart of Kalamazoo (Comstock) who shot an 85 and is tied for 18th.

Freshman Megan Jenkinson of Traverse City (TC West) and freshman Deanna DeLeeuw of Hudsonville (Hudsonville) shot a 90 and 92, respectively. 

The Flying Dutch resume action Saturday at 8:30 am for the final round of the invitational.
