Women's Swim/Dive Races Past Davenport

Meg Peel, Emma Schaefer, Betsy Craig, and Allison Eppinga teamed up to get the 25th ranked Hope College women's swimming & diving team off to a winning start.

The Flying Dutch's 400-yard medley relay set the tone for a 124-87 victory against NCAA Division II Davenport University on Friday at the Dow Center by clocking a winning time of 4 minutes, 3.72 seconds in the first event.

Hope posted the top performances in seven events during the non-league dual meet.

Senior Sara Plohetski of South Lyon, Michigan (South Lyon HS) took first in 1-meter diving with a score of 222.20 points and 3-meter diving with a total of 203.20 points.

The Flying Dutch won four individual swimming events.

Paula Nolte posted the best effort in the 100 individual medley. The junior from Elmhurst, Illinois (York Community) went 1:04.85.

Eppinga recorded the fastest swim in the 50 backstroke. The junior from Ann Arbor, Michigan (Saline) had a time of 28.84.

Peel took first in the 100 freestyle. The sophomore from Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) finished in 55.50 seconds.

Schaefer clocked the top 200 individual medley. The sophomore from DeWitt, Michigan (St. Johns) went 2:16.28.

Hope's next meet is Saturday, November 3 at the Calvin College Invitational.
