Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match At Millikin In Showcase Opener

The 12th-ranked Hope College volleyball team dropped a tough five-set match at Millikin University (Illinois) on Friday.

The Flying Dutch rallied from a 2-0 deficit before falling 25-21, 27-25, 20-25, 22-25 15-13 in the opening round of the Millikin Midseason Showcase.

Hope (11-3 overall) completes the tournament with two matches on Saturday.

Senior outside hitter Katie Rietberg of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) totaled 18 kills to lead the Flying Dutch.

Freshman middle McKenna Otto of Wheaton, Illinois (North) chipped in 13 kills.

Junior outside hitter Ryann Stutz of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Parchment) added 10 kills.

Junior libero Gabbi Vachon of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Jenison) totaled 20 digs.

Millikin (9-8 overall) took command in the fifth set by reeling off four consecutive points with three kills and one service ace for a 14-9 lead.
